Last modified on 11 July 2025

You wish to take advantage of the innovative educational project «"Let's build our school together."» Your aim is to provide your classroom(s) with a suitable environment that fosters student autonomy in primary school. However, you are unsure which products to choose to best meet your students' expectations and needs for implementing this explicit instruction.
Here we give you an idea of a product selection to meet the needs and expectations of autonomy of your primary school students.

What is student autonomy in primary school?

When we talk about’autonomy in the classroom, We shouldn't imagine a child working and experimenting alone, apart from others. Rather, we should picture a child capable of reflecting on the means and support they will use to solve the problems they face. They must be able to act independently or in groups without necessarily involving the teacher. This will be achieved through the tools made available to them.

We are not born autonomous, we become so. This process will evolve according to the context in which the child finds themselves.
And to help the child, you must... create an environment conducive to their independent learning.

Here are some easy tips to implement in your project:« Let's build our school together. »:

  • Encourage active participation: group discussion, presentation of work, participation in projects.
The goal: to give people the opportunity to make choices and decisions: sense of autonomy.
  • Prepare work plans: give the week's lessons on Monday for Friday.
The objective: the child learns to organize during his week, doing his lessons little by little.
