Holidays at Grandma and Grandpa's? In short, it's certainly the most anticipated time for children and the most dreaded for parents, although… we parents also deserve a few days of respite. But only a few days, because, let's face it, once we've left, it's not uncommon for one of us to slip away to sniff the scent of a forgotten cuddly toy. So why are our children so excited when it comes to going on holiday to grandma and grandpa's?
Because at Grandma and Grandpa's house, we go to bed late.
Yes, indeed., Grandma and Grandpa have their own rhythm and little routines, quite different from those imposed by energetic and inquiring young children. So, off to bed after the Thalassa theme song… okay, fine, during the commercials then… okay, at the end of the show, it's the holidays after all! We won't tell Mom and Dad 🙂
Because at Grandma and Grandpa's house we eat super, super, mega delicious things
At 12:11 PM, we're already seated at the table. Starter, main course, cheese, dessert, and all homemade. At Grandma's, it's incredibly delicious. Fruits and vegetables from the garden, a quick trip to the market for cheese, and back home for a dessert prepared by four, six, eight, or even ten hands. At Grandma and Grandpa's, we eat everything, and there's no question of putting ketchup on the fish to mask the flavor. Our little secret: a slice of bread and butter with chocolate spread at the end of the meal… (what a treat!) Oh, if only our parents knew…
Because at Grandma and Grandpa's house we play lots of really fun games
By "really fun games," do you mean Nain Jaune? Uno? Checkers and Scrabble? Mom used to have a Super Nintendo, but it doesn't work anymore. And since the weather's nice, we could play ball in the garden or organize a treasure hunt with your cousins. What do you think?
Because my grandparents give me lots of presents
Mom and Dad also buy presents for your birthday and for Christmas. Look, last time Dad bought you a new bike without training wheels.
Yes, it's true, my darling, Grandpa and Grandma gave you an ice princess balloon, chocolate eggs (yes, the ones with the surprise inside), a really beautiful book, a kite, and a new pair of shoes for running super fast. But it's just that Grandpa and Grandma don't see you much the rest of the year. It's a little something to thank you for your stay and to encourage you to come back and see us again 🙂
Because at my grandparents' house I dress up and put on makeup all the time
The attic is a real treasure trove, and Dad's old clothes are everywhere. They're ugly, aren't they? Yes, my dear, it's true, that little sweater isn't exactly modern, and those red pants—what a strange idea! What if we used Grandpa's shoes to play clowns? I'll draw a pretty red nose on you with the leftover lipstick from Grandma. I promise we'll put on some moisturizer (anti-wrinkle) to avoid breakouts.
Mom will take care of removing your makeup.
Because at grandma and grandpa's house you don't get scolded
Please note, this isn't about being lax; our grandchildren are perfect, just like the parents we raised. It's simply a matter of strategy. If we scolded them, they wouldn't want to come back… Who can we share our little stories with? Besides, isn't it Mom and Dad's job to raise them? 🙂
Because at Grandma and Grandpa's house, there are loads of activities
Available 7 days a week, almost 24 hours a day (except during nap time), we are always ready to go out with our grandchildren, play with them, tell them stories, pamper them, reassure them, cuddle them or simply listen to them.
We have all the time in the world, after all.
